Outfits play a big role in the overall feel of your photos! Think about the vibe you’re going for and where these photos will end up. On your walls, in an album, or on your Christmas cards.

Neutrals and earthy tones are beautiful, but I’m also all for a bold, maximalist look. Think bright pinks and greens, zebra stripes, leopard print, feathers, fringe, and unexpected combinations! If you love mixing colors, patterns, and textures, have fun with it. There’s room for both simple and playful here.

For a softer classic look, start with one or two main neutrals and build from there. Cream, ivory, camel, chocolate, soft black, and classic denim photograph beautifully. Whatever direction you choose, pick outfits that work together for the overall look you’re going for.

My biggest tip? Mix in texture! Linen, cotton, gauze, denim, silk, embroidery, and knits add depth and visual interest. You could dress the whole family in shades of cream and white, and the different fabrics would still give each outfit its own personality.

For fall and Christmas sessions, rich greens, burgundy, cream, and warm browns create a beautiful seasonal feel. If the weather allows, velvet, corduroy, cozy knits, and sherpa add even more texture. Keep the Texas weather in mind and choose outfits everyone can comfortably move and play in, especially the kids. When everyone feels comfortable, it shows in the photos!

Don’t be afraid to have fun with overalls, a bold dress, or accessories. I especially love a good cowboy hat and boots! Pinterest is a great place to find inspiration. You’re also welcome to text me outfit ideas if you’d like my opinion on what will photograph well.
